when i take hazel for walks everything is new to her. grass is as amazing as a monkey or a car. Everything is so exciting, maybe scary, maybe fun, maybe tasty.
it really is a perfect way of viewing the world that i take for granted. today, i noticed on the greenview that a number of houses in a row had different molding next to the window. one was a row of circles, one looked like flowers hanging off of a tree and one like an upside down pine cone.
someone designed them. someone took the time to make small concrete molding to go next to the window just to be pretty.
just to be pretty and I never notice it. hazel would.
i've got to talk less on the phone while we go for our walks. i gotta see more stuff like that.
how often we do miss the little things, and they are the richness of life. i've been reading more annie dillard lately and she reminds me to be awake to minuteness and moments and it's like another layer of living is revealed. but to live that way all the time would be difficult, it has been known to cause me to miss turns and get lost even when walking in familiar places!
